I don't like the imitation tap on the steam wand, either(1:28). I nearly broke mine by trying to turn it!
ReplyDeleteMine's brand new, and I'm delighted with it so far. I like the built in tamper
@gtrwndr87 Sure -- I think we may still have one on the demo floor; I'll put it on the list. - Kat
ReplyDeleteI saw on your website that you carry the DeLonghi EC155, any chance you can post a review?
ReplyDelete@speedy152001 Great to hear! :) - Kat
ReplyDelete@SeattleCoffeeGear Thanks for the advice Kat. I did just that and traded up. Now got a Gaggia New Baby. It only ships in UK with pressurised baskets but I know I can purchase regular ones. And it is toasty :)
ReplyDelete@speedy152001 I think that is a little low and you might want to get it swapped out under warranty. - Kat
ReplyDeleteLove your vids. I am learning lots. I got one of these on a whim but the water even out of the shower is never over 160-170f so I never get a hot espresso. it steams milk ok though. Am I right that it is probably a faulty model?.
ReplyDelete@knoweffecks Obviously we can't speak to the long term functionality of a machine that we test and demo in the store, so we work with the information that we have -- we're not being kind at all. DeLonghi, in general, has a pretty loose definition of QA in their manufacturing of their lower end machines and your experience is similar to ones we have heard from others with their low cost semi-autos for years. We are pretty explicit about that on our site as a result. - Kat
ReplyDeletered/blue remaining) - I received a full refund and purchased a Gaggia Baby Class, an infinitely better machine, well at the group head anyway, it's still waiting a steam wand mod!
ReplyDeleteGreat vids anyway - Loved the "art" on this one!!!
I have to say I think you're been very kind to this machine, I had 3 in total over a 4 month period, after about 500-750g of espresso put through it, the machine can start to spit coffee everywhere when removing the PF. All the machines I had were taken back by DeLonghi and deemed faulty, then replaced, eventually around Dec/Jan 2009 they were discontinued in the UK (well the black ones were, I believe there is stock of
ReplyDelete@ekjohns1 I wouldn't break them down like that, but I'd go: Capresso Cafe Espresso, Saeco Via Venezia/Aroma, Francis Francis X7/X1, Rancilio Silvia, Quick Mill Alexia, Rocket Espresso (any). At time of posting -- new machines are added all the time, so this likely will change within a few months :) - Kat
ReplyDeletecoming from someone who has tried a bunch of different brands could you guys give a list of your top rated by price? Say sub $100, $100-200, $200-500, $500 and up?
ReplyDelete@ekjohns1 They all seem to perform similarly in this regard -- not a lot of oomph and panarellos, so not a lot of control, but they get the job done. - Kat
ReplyDelete@ekek888 We have it on our list, just waiting for the demo to arrive, promise! :) - Kat
ReplyDelete@Dantius2009 Ha -- well it is the thought that counts, thank you :D - Kat
ReplyDelete@seekerofAdventure Thank you :D :D - Kat
ReplyDelete@TheSampleLife Thank you Gary!! Glad you appreciate these reviews even though you're a pro :) -- Kat
ReplyDelete@Malangsufi Thank you! :D
ReplyDelete@8giang8 Ha! I think the machine liked it too ;) - Kat
ReplyDeleteSo it seems this is identical in function to the ec140b/ec155 other than the frother. Any idea which forther is better?
ReplyDeletecan you do a review of the Jura X7? and happy Bday to you KAT.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday from Germany to Kat. I would send you some flowers over there, but its a little bit far for it. :-)
ReplyDeleteAND: I saw your HAND again! :-)
happy birthday Kat!!! :)
ReplyDeleteJust got home from my shift behind the machine at work, and saw a new video from you two! I have learnt a lot about coffee machines from all of your videos and I think it is great that you do reviews like this for people who are just starting to get into the coffee scene! I remember when I got my first espresso maker a few years ago and my coffee addiction has grown slowly ever since.
ReplyDeleteTake care from Gary in Australia!
happy birthday :)
