Crew Review: Nespresso Capsule Espresso Machine

Gail shows us the ins and outs of the Nespresso capsule espresso machine, which includes a demo of how it and the Aeroccino milk frother function.
Video Rating: four / five

Getting into my gadgets, I believed I'd generate this video evaluation of my new Nespresso machine, the Citiz range Magimix M190. One particular little challenge for you on this one - every of the songs featured in the video (apart from the opening one particular) has the word coffee somewhere in its title. A prize (of some description) to whoever can appropriately determine all three of them. Please don't hesitate to leave any feedback or comments, and if you are watching this and know of any forthcoming presenting work that I would suit, please get in touch with me at alistaircohen@hotmail.com. Cheers.

  1. @Abaddon1594 I am so sorry to hear this! It sucks when a company you love makes a business decision that is obviously good for them but not for customers...perhaps they'll see an impact to business and switch back, but who knows? - Kat

  2. @Tipperman Yeah, you definitely can't beat the convenience of this, and they have put a lot of work into their capsule tech, so it's the best of the lot. One of SCG's owners has one at home and he loves it! - Kat

  3. I love Nespresso coffee - the cost is not important.

However Nespresso UK changed from FEDEX to "YODEL" for deliveries. Just google YODEL and Amazon you'll see why I'm pissed!

I'm trying NE-CAP's now - the French seem to like them. If that doesn't work the old Krups is getting repaired and the Nespresso unit goes in the trash!

To bad...Nespresso does have a good product but chasing deliveries is something I have no time for. I am a busy addict and the dealer has f'd up big!

  4. I have the Essenza at home. It's inexpensive, although not exactly a Rocket. Still, to anyone thinking of getting one, I say go for it. Yeah you buy capsules, big deal. If you want something that's simple to use and isn't extremely messy, go for it. Personally, I'm a bit of a coffee snob. Black only, etc, and I was a bit put off by the capsule thing, but it tastes pretty good and is really simple, especially if you're in a rush in the morning.

  7. @jimeca it's good for what it is, definitely. And the noise isn't any worse than any other espresso machine (and quieter than every grinder!) :) - Kat

  12. @Johanvideo525 They have some competition these days (that they're suing over) -- from Sara Lee and an environmentally-friendly company...so choice in capsules may be available in the future, depending on how the IP stuff shakes out. - Kat

  13. can't really get my head over this "you have to join our club to buy our coffee" concept. I dont wanna be married to a coffee business!

  14. wow so simple, a very good business idea too if you can only buy pods from one company. not sure its for, i'd like one as well as real semi automatic just for those lazy days.

  15. @stupidnamenoonecares Robusta is often incorporated into espresso blends and there are some camps that believe it's not espresso unless it has some robusta in it. But everyone has an opinion with coffee and also everyone is right ;) I hope that you find a blend you like; I know that do have some 100% arabica varieties available. - Kat

@stupidnamenoonecares ok much happier now i've tried some more pods. the arpeggio is great and i think i'll be getting it a lot.
overall it's better than the BP cafe on the way to work and will save me some money after the 4 months it will take to pay for the upfront cost.
i'm surprised at how stingy i feel about using the pods. 3 pods seems like so much but it's much the same as a large extra shot from a BP cafe.

@SeattleCoffeeGear well i got it today. mixed feelings really. it came with a heap of different blends which one of which i guess will be the same as the one i tasted at the fair. it's fast and clean which will shine come time to go to work.
i am a little disappointed that they have decided the robusta is a good idea though. it would seem they think robusta is a good way to make coffee "strong" fortunately some pods are all aribica and i'll try them first thing tomorrow.

i bought 1 today after trying it a food wine tasting fair. i have to say i tried a LOT of espresso today easily 9 shots. this machine got it in the middle of the pack and is frankly better than most coffee around. my favourite barista is in no trouble though, i'll still get it from him when near there.
i have some concerns over their durability but i'm fairly certain this machine will pay for itself in around 8 months.
can't wait for it to get here to be honest.

  21. Hi
I have an Nespresso C91, i have tried 6 different capsules but no one of them seems to have at taste of coffee, just hot water.. Am i doing something wrong?

  22. @renix Totally; well, hopefully we do some of that work here -- not perfectly, but try to be balanced and open and informative. And fun :D - Kat

  23. @SeattleCoffeeGear I agree, but want to reiterate that education of the range of espresso machines is important for beginners, and that doesn't always happen. There aren't many stores like yours where it's obvious just from entering. My first machine was a Hamilton Beach, and my first reaction was "espresso!" then "is this espresso?". Had I known I would have gone for something better (Nespresso?), but even then would have liked to have known about grinders...what kind of impact they make, etc.

  24. @renix I think it's important to also identify that most people don't have the time or interest to understand this; It's pretty esoteric to many folks and the market as it is today is geared toward folks who are either really into this or don't care at all. There is a middle ground that we're trying to address, and a big part of that is accepting that not everyone is going to be a geek about it. Geeks are great (I'm one!) but if you're not one, contending with one can be intimidating. - Kat

  25. @renix the funny thing is you've probably drunk a nespresso coffee countless times in restaurants as this machine is favoured by even chefs such as Heston blumenthol and Gordon Ramsay.

  26. @alistaircohen This is like talking about a microwave meal like it's fine cuisine. That's junk stale coffee, the crema is pale and foamy. I've tried multiple free samples of Nespresso and I've tossed each in the closest trash can on the way to finding some water to wash my mouth out.

The lungo is silly because you can't just throw more water through the same amount of coffee and get the right ratio for correct dissolved solids. It overextracts the coffee, makes it bitter. Junk!

    ReplyDelete
  27. @OneInTheRiver ... just more hot water through the coffee pod

    ReplyDelete
  28. So "lungo" is a normal sized cup of coffee? How do you make that from an espresso pod?
